At Musical Nuances, music is more than sound, it is a language of emotion, discipline, and beauty.
Founded by internationally acclaimed pianist Diana Gabrielyan, Musical Nuances unites the elegance of European conservatory tradition with the dynamic energy of New York, offering an experience where talent is discovered, refined, and celebrated.
Our Story, Our Philosophy
Founded originally in Rome, Italy, Musical Nuances was born from the passion of a dedicated violinist and educator, a mother whose belief in the transformative power of music shaped generations of students. As her daughter joined her, a partnership was formed, one of heart, experience, and a shared vision for musical education rooted in excellence and individuality.
Now based in New York, our journey continues with the same devotion, offering students a rare blend of European musical tradition and contemporary pedagogy. With decades of combined experience and hundreds of musicians shaped by our guidance, we teach not only technique, but depth, cultivating refined ears, expressive hearts, and confident performers.
At Musical Nuances, we hold that musical talent is a rare and precious gift, one that deserves both discovery and deliberate nurturing. Our selective and personalized approach welcomes students whose dedication and innate musicality reveal the promise of remarkable growth.
We see each student as a unique universe, with strengths and artistic potential waiting to be unlocked. Every lesson is an opportunity to awaken artistry, emotional intelligence, and technical mastery, guiding each musician toward their fullest potential through personalized mentorship and inspired teaching.
Our mission is to develop not just skilled instrumentalists but complete musicians: artists capable of interpreting music with emotional depth, intellectual insight, and confident expression.

Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Diana’s musical journey began under the guidance of her mother, a violinist who was also her principal teacher in violin and piano. Her profound passion for music led to her first public concert at age five at the House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian. She later trained at the highly selective Tchaikovsky Music School for Talented Children and performed her first solo recital at age nine.
She is a prize-winner of more than 30 prestigious national and international piano competitions across Europe, the United States, and Armenia, 18 of which are first prizes. Notable awards include the Gramsci Prize, Rovere d’Oro Prize, Rospigliosi Prize in Italy, and the “F. Chopin – Hartford” Prize.
Her concert career includes performances at Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Malibran, Venice, Salle de Cinema, Paris, and other prominent venues across Italy and Armenia. She has been featured in over 30 major media outlets, including BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone, and Radio France. In 2014, her solo CD for Odradek Records was released, featuring works by Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Babadjanyan, and Mansuryan, receiving international acclaim.
In New York, Diana earned her MM at the Manhattan School of Music and served as a Collaborative Pianist in the Precollege Division. She currently teaches at Saint David's School and the NYC Piano Academy, and also mentors students at Concept Music School. She is presently a DMA candidate in Piano Performance at the Catholic University of America, under the guidance of world-renowned pianist M° N. Fitenko.
In 2017, she co-founded Musicali Sfumature (Musical Nuances) in Rome with her mother, Nelli Hakobyan, and in 2024 she established Musical Nuances Conservatory in New York City, bringing her refined European training and artistic philosophy to students in the United States. She is a member of elite music organizations including Steinway & Sons Teachers, AGBU Artists, and Odradek Records, celebrated for her exceptional artistry, discipline, and ability to inspire the next generation of performers.
At Musical Nuances Piano School, music is not only our profession, it is our life’s devotion. For us, this school holds profound personal meaning, uniting the artistic legacy of two generations with the shared belief that music is both a craft and a sacred calling. We approach teaching with the same integrity, refinement, and depth that we bring to the concert stage, guiding our students with patience, discipline, and inspiration.
Our mission is to cultivate not only technical mastery but also a noble musical spirit, instilling in our students the highest artistic values, cultural awareness, and deep respect for the art. In every lesson, we aim to awaken sensitivity, imagination, and a lifelong love of music, shaping not only accomplished musicians, but refined human beings.
