Diana Gabrielyan is an internationally celebrated pianist and educator recognized as one of the leading artists of her generation. Pierre Petit wrote in Le Figaro: “At the age of thirteen, Diana Gabrielyan shows overwhelming presence, passion, and sense of style.” Ivan Hewett of BBC Music Magazine noted, “Throughout she displays a clear, delicate touch… Gabrielyan brings out the varied colors of this music.”
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Diana’s musical journey began under the guidance of her mother, a violinist who was also her principal teacher in violin and piano. Her profound passion for music led to her first public concert at age five at the House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian. She later trained at the highly selective Tchaikovsky Music School for Talented Children and performed her first solo recital at age nine.
She is a prize-winner of more than 30 prestigious national and international piano competitions across Europe, the United States, and Armenia, 18 of which are first prizes. Notable awards include the Gramsci Prize, Rovere d’Oro Prize, Rospigliosi Prize in Italy, and the “F. Chopin – Hartford” Prize.
Her concert career includes performances at Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Malibran, Venice, Salle de Cinema, Paris, and other prominent venues across Italy and Armenia. She has been featured in over 30 major media outlets, including BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone, and Radio France. In 2014, her solo CD for Odradek Records was released, featuring works by Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Babadjanyan, and Mansuryan, receiving international acclaim.
In New York, Diana earned her MM at the Manhattan School of Music and served as a Collaborative Pianist in the Precollege Division. She currently teaches at Saint David's School and the NYC Piano Academy, and also mentors students at Concept Music School. She is presently a DMA candidate in Piano Performance at the Catholic University of America, under the guidance of world-renowned pianist M° N. Fitenko.
In 2017, she co-founded Musicali Sfumature (Musical Nuances) in Rome with her mother, Nelli Hakobyan, and in 2024 she established Nuance Piano School in New York City, bringing her refined European training and artistic philosophy to students in the United States. She is a member of elite music organizations including Steinway & Sons Teachers, AGBU Artists, and Odradek Records, celebrated for her exceptional artistry, discipline, and ability to inspire the next generation of performers.
